Product Review (August 2009) - Verbatim
Nano Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse

By Rita Nakano

Verbatim Nano Wireless MouseUsing the built-in pointing devices on compact computers can be frustrating and while convenient, many users want to connect a conventional mouse for doing real work. Verbatim has introduced the new Nano Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse designed to give users the power of a full-size mouse while offering portability through a 2.4GHz wireless link. The mouse is available in seven different colors and is powered by a pair of "AAA" batteries. The ergonomic design makes it comfortable to use and the middle scroll wheel provides an easy mechanism for flipping though documents and web pages.

Verbatim Nano Wireless MouseNano Receiver
The Nano USB receiver is incredibly small and extends only about 1/4" from the USB port, yet is easy to install and remove. Users can keep the receiver plugged into their computer. However, the receiver is designed to be stored in the base of the mouse, which helps prevent losing it and also turns off the power during transport. The idea is clever and works well based on our 2 month experience using this optical device. The mouse worked on many different surfaces with pinpoint accuracy allowing us to run any application. The device is compatible with USB 2.0 or 1.1 ports on computers running Windows XP, 2000, Vista, Mac OS 10.4.X and higher.

Conclusion
We tested the Verbatim Nano Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse with our small Acer 8.9" Aspire One while on the go. The mouse gave us the freedom to control our content without struggling with the built-in mouse pad. To wake the mouse up after it goes into a sleep mode, the user must click on one of the buttons. Intuitively, most users will move the mouse to bring it back into operation, but this does not wake it up. This is the only issue that we ran into during our review and it was not a problem for us. The mouse worked well during our review period and we continue to use it with the same set of batteries.
